During 2020, I spent about 6 weeks working from home. The pandemic was cranking up, we were not sure what was going to happen, and so, well, you know how it played out. “2 weeks to flatten the curve” turned out to be, ah, longer, and I quickly discovered that I was not the “work from home” type. It was not an easy time for me.
One really good thing that came out of that time was a deepened appreciation for Romans 8. I stumbled on a spoken word/music recording of Romans 8 produced by Redeemer Nashville, and I listened to the album several times a day. The words of Scripture soothed my restless heart as snapshots from the pages began to ring in my head.

See the most frequent word there? Spirit! The Spirit appears 14 times in the first 18 verses. This was news to me, and I began to recognize how little I understood about the work of the Holy Spirit in my life.
So when Grace Baptist Church asked if I would speak at this year’s women’s conference and they gave me the topic of “The Indwelling Power of the Holy Spirit,” I was pretty excited for the opportunity! (Excited and a little terrified, frankly–it is a little harder to teach at home!)

It has been a rich study. In just the first verses, we learn that in Christ, by the work of the Spirit, we are no longer condemned, no longer enslaved, no longer guilty, no longer helplessly disobedient, no longer purposeless, no longer fleshly, no longer unrighteous! I’ve been learning so much!
Let me extend an invitation to any women out there who would like to attend. The Conference will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Santa Clarita, CA on April 14 and 15.
You can find more details and register here.
In the meantime, would you be praying with me for the folks who will be putting on the conference as well as for the women who will attend? I would also appreciate your prayers as I wrap up my studies and finalize the messages. I’m looking forward to a great weekend around Romans 8.
We are, to a woman, OVERJOYED to get to hear you unpack this beautiful passage. God is GOOD!! And you are a gift to us from Him.

Lisa, you recommended this Romans VIII album a while back and I have LOVED it since then. Such a precious set of spoken words and music that has helped me memorize most if not all of Romans 8. I have since passed this on to other friends of whom it is blessing immensely. Thank you! I wish I could attend this conference and hear more from your heart on this beautiful treasure of a passage.
