Knowing and Enjoying God by Tim Challies and Jules Koblun

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18

Sometimes as I scroll through the wasteland of social media, a striking photograph jumps out at me. As I stop to look at the landscape or portrait or still life, my brain catches up with the words displayed on the photo. You know what I’m talking about, right? Those SquareQuotes assembled by Tim Challies and Jules Koblun?

The wise words displayed on these photos are a great reminder of wisdom and truth in a world of stupid lies.

Since 2015, Tim and Jules have collaborated on these beautiful reminders to bring wisdom, insight, and healing to those who read and meditate on them. You can find the SquareQuotes on Tim’s site, Facebook, Instagram, and see more of Jule’s work on her graphic design site.

And now you can find a printed collection of these designs along side a short devotional from Tim in a lovely hard-bound gift book, Knowing and Enjoying God: Words from the Wise, published by Harvest house and available September 7, 2021.

Organized around the topics of the Christ-follower’s relationship with God, you will find the quotes address the means of grace: God’s communication with us through His word, our engagement with the His Word through prayer and medication, and our fellowship with God’s people as we grow into Christ-likeness. Tim’s pastoral heart is evident as he kindly encourages his readers to follow the Savior closely, to love His Word, to cherish His church, and to proclaim His salvation.

The graphics are beautiful, and the quotes from wise men and women span both Church history and the world. And, in case you have ever wondered at the greater context of these quotes, a thorough list of citations can lead to further study.

Do you find yourself needing to slow down in your devotional life? This text would provide a lovely season of meditation with much scope for further Biblical exploration. Looking for Christmas gifts? Birthday gifts? “I-know-your-day-has-been-lousy” gifts? “Thanks-for-serving” gifts? Look no further! Knowing and Enjoying God will assist you and your loved ones to do just what the title says!

Thanks to Tim and Jules for their work on this text (and for the review copy!). I have enjoyed having it on my desk at work and handing it to my colleagues to examine.
