The Student Life Staff had just finished eating lunch with the conference speakers, and we were crowded into my boss’s living room. RC Sproul sat on the couch, and I sat on the footstool at his feet. Appropriate. That’s what we all did, right? We sat at his feet while he opened the Scriptures and pointed to the King. Today he sits at his Savior’s feet.
That day, we spoke of the children’s books he had written. Clear, life-transforming theology, simple enough for a child to understand, strong enough to carry the adult. My favorite, The Priest with Dirty Clothes, was his favorite. We spoke of identifying with the priest in the story, unable to cleanse ourselves from our wretchedness. And we rejoiced together to wear the robes of the King’s son–clothed in His righteousness alone! Today, RC wears the unstained robes of heaven.
Dr. Steve Nichols, a college friend of mine who serves as the President of Reformation Bible College today posted the last line from his mentor and friend’s last sermon, preached just 3 weeks ago:
“I pray with all my heart that God will awaken each one of us today to the sweetness, the loveliness, the glory of the gospel declared by Christ.” RC Sproul
Amen.
