October is Pastor Appreciation Month. In gathering ideas for ways to honor our pastors, I have sought a most knowledgeable source: the wife of a pastor. Heather is a former student of mine, and here is what she wrote about ways to honor your pastor.

This October for Pastor Appreciation Month, consider giving your pastor one or more of these gifts—

• 1. Sit up near the front (in that empty section no one likes).
• 2. Sing out loudly with worship from your heart, even if you aren’t confident in the song.
• 3. Thank him with a specific example of how you are going to (or did last week) put into practice what he exhorted or encouraged.
• 4. Send him an email during the week with a specific verse/passage your family is praying for him and his ministry. {Click here for more ways to pray.}
• 5. Serve the church’s needs joyfully and humbly, not drawing attention to the great sacrifices you made for it.
• Bonus—keep doing these things after October has passed.
